Swimming in Lady Bird Lake

Most people are unaware that it’s illegal to swim in Lady Bird Lake. This law was passed in 1964 after two drownings occurred in the lake. The stronger than expected current and large underwater debris uphold the danger of swimming in this lake today. While you can’t swim in Lady Bird lake, here’s a list of watering holes where you can legally cool down: Barton Springs Barton Creek Greenbelt Deep Eddy Municipal Pool (cash only) Hippie Hollow on Lake Travis (ages 18+) Hamilton Pool (reservations required) Jacob’s Well (reservation required)
